Vineyard
The Bricco del Cuculo vineyard (270m a.s.l.) is located in the village of Barbaresco, on parcels 326 and 214 of Map VI. It stands on top of a hill with slopes facing east, south and west, and its clayey and calcareous white soil covers an area of 0.43 hectares, all planted with Barbera vines in 1950 and 1970.
Picking and maceration
The grapes were selectively picked by hand into perforated boxes on 20 September 2005. Maceration on the skins lasted 12 days in wooden vat, until the end of the alcoholic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine was matured for 16 months in small wooden barrels and 6 months in steel tanks before being bottled. Aged for 3 months in magnum bottle prior to its release.
Bottling
The wine was bottled on June 27th 2007, without clarification or filtration, with lot number L07-04.
The total production was made up of 1,000 x 1.50 l Albeisa Magnum bottles.
Tasting notes
Rich, intense ruby red colour, with deep purplish hues. Vinous nose, featuring ripe red fruit blending nicely with sweet and spicy overtones acquired from the wood. Plenty of structure lingering on the mouth, accompanied by an appealing fresh, dry finish.
